CoMBAT PD (Connectomics metrics as biomarkers for advanced treatments of Parkinson's Disease)

This scholarship is funded by the Parkinson Association Trento.

The CoMBAT PD project investigates the use of connectomic biomarkers derived from fMRI and dMRI to predict the motor and cognitive outcomes of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and other advanced treatments for Parkinson's disease.

The primary objective is to develop a multimodal model integrating functional connectivity, structural connectivity, and pre- and post-operative clinical data for the individual prediction of treatment response. The study will also include a longitudinal analysis to assess the effects of DBS on the reorganization of functional and structural brain networks.

Data will be analysed using tractography, connectomic analysis, and machine learning approaches, with ad hoc predictive models specifically developed for this purpose.

The project aims to improve the selection of candidates for advanced therapies, particularly DBS, and to clarify the neurobiological mechanisms underlying neuromodulation in Parkinson’s disease.
